Body Depth: The most distinct feature is the shallower body. In the 90s, the Grand Concert depth was approximately 3.75 to 4 inches, making it much more compact and "couch-friendly" than the deeper modern 412ce.
- Late 90s (approx. 1998): Taylor switched the 400 series to solid Ovangkol, which has a fuller midrange and more "sparkle" than Mahogany.
- Top Wood: Always solid Sitka Spruce with a gloss finish.
- The Bridge: Many 90s models featured a pinless bridge design, where strings feed through the back of the bridge rather than being held by pins.
- Neck & Nut: A 1 3/4" nut width was standard, paired with a slim, fast Mahogany neck and an Ebony fingerboard.
